Chamber Music Ensembles from the Department of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Chamber Music Ensembles

Founded in 1965, the Department of Music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong has been providing practical and academic training in both Chinese and Western music for almost 60 years. It excels in the creation, application, dissemination and preservation of musical knowledge through research, teaching, professional training, and service to a variety of local, regional and international communities.

As Hong Kong’s first degree-granting music department, the Department now offers courses leading to the BA, MA, MMus, DMus, MPhil, and PhD degrees. The Department’s accumulated wealth of materials and human resources, together with extensive personal and institutional networks built up over decades, have contributed to a world-leading output in Chinese music studies and related intercultural music research.

Every semester 30-40 undergraduate music students form small groups to enrol in the chamber music ensemble course. They study their chosen repertoire in depth, attend weekly coaching with Department faculty, and perform in various concerts and masterclasses. The course serves as an indispensable learning experience that connectsacademic studies to practical music making.
