LEWIS YIP

TRUMPET

Born in Hong Kong, Lewis Yip Long-wai graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2022, majoring in trumpet.

During his study at HKAPA, he was awarded the SAR Philharmonic Scholarship. He was also admitted to the Associate Degree in Music Studies programme at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in 2017. He has studied with Fung Ka-hing since 2017 for five years.

At the age of nine, he began his trumpet-playing journey in primary school as an extracurricular activity. After enrolling in the Fanling Lutheran Secondary School in 2011, he joined the school’s trumpet class and wind band, studying the instrument under Elaine Yeung Hoi-ling until his graduation in 2017.

In 2017, he followed Hong Kong Young Musician’s Wind Orchestra to Holland for the World Music Contest Kerkrade (WMC).

In 2018, he played as a soloist in the concert “Music with Feathers” with Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, organised by the HKBU Music Department.

Lewis has also played in various masterclasses with international trumpet artists, including Allen Vizzutti, David Washburn, Éric Aubier, Esteban Batallán, Mary Elizabeth Bowden and Sergei Nakariakov.

He is now an active freelance player appearing with different orchestras in Hong Kong, he has been a freelance player in Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Macao Orchestra, Inheritage Philharmonic, Hong Kong Strings etc.
