Harp Educator

Cat Cheung is a harp educator, curriculum designer, researcher and founder of the Harpicat, an internationally distributed harp teaching materials brand. She holds a Master’s degree in Music Psychology (by Research) from the University of Sheffield, UK.

She is the author of a series of harp method books and has developed structured teaching materials now used in over ten countries, with a number of music centres adopting them as part of their formal curriculum. She has also collaborated with Tom Lee Music Hong Kong in the design of the Harpbee small harp, with her teaching materials incorporated into its learning package.

Her work centres on integrating music psychology into harp pedagogy, with a focus on curriculum design, student development, and performance outcomes across different learning stages. She holds additional qualifications in Psychology and Child Psychology and is a certified ADHD Education Coach. She has been invited to contribute teaching notes based on the ABRSM harp syllabus and to deliver seminars on examination strategies for harp students and teachers. She has served as a harp adjudicator and is actively engaged in evaluating student performance and teaching practices.

Cat is regularly invited to present at international harp festivals, including Salvi Music Harp Festival and Harp Carnival China, as well as by various institutions and universities. She is committed to integrating music psychology into music education, with the aim of advancing more effective and psychologically informed approaches to music education. Her work has been featured in major Hong Kong media, reflecting its broader relevance in contemporary music education.

Alongside her pedagogical and assessment work, her research explores music performance anxiety in harp education, contributing to the development of more supportive and psychologically informed approaches to music teaching and performance.
